What you DON’T need from another Parent Coach and Counsellor.

You may think that this is a strange title from someone who is both the above - but since launching SENSE I think I have found my lane.  If your child is newly diagnosed or you are in the process of getting a diagnosis of either autism, ADHD or combined AuDHD and you are frustrated by the generic advice and strategies, the lack of true bespoke support, then you have found the right page and the right person.

The truth is I NEVER set out to start a business. My original plan was to qualify as a counsellor and then work in schools supporting the declining mental health of our young people. But then along the way something happened….

Firstly, I followed my passion and my strengths and moved into SEN teaching and I haven’t looked back since. Then I became a Mum (to twins!) all during my counsellor training. By the time I finally qualified, I was being approached by friends, family, friends of friends all asking the same thing.

“We got the diagnosis and now we're not really sure what to do? Some of the things they suggest help, but I think my child is different - I think we need your help/ I think they need some counselling with someone who gets it.”

The thing is, I do NOT have the magic answer, no one does, but I DO have the keys to help you find which one unlocks.

I am NOT the expert on you or your child, but I CAN guide, support and educate you on how to trust yourself and be empowered to know what is best for you and your child.

I have spent hundreds of hours talking with parents, sat in dozens of EHCP meetings, listened to your frustrations and heard your devoted love in getting the very best support for your child. When it comes to supporting a neurodivergent young individual, it is not the teachers, doctors or counsellors who will have the greatest impact - but YOU, the parents!

What I have is a bank of knowledge, a very large toolbox of strategies and interventions and a very fixated WHY brain. For me, understanding the meaning behind a child’s behaviour is more important than simply putting in a script to manage it. As a trained professional, I can spot when your child may be struggling with sensory overload or masking for example . But being a trained integrative Counsellor, I understand the impact that masking has on a person’s wellbeing and sense of identity. I like to call this my unique blend of, “Theory Meets Therapy”

So SENSE (Special Educational Needs Support & Empowerment) was born.

I have a 5 week Coaching Framework(™) that helps you understand your child and what is going on for them. We work collaboratively to understand what drives them and then I help educate and support you with the strategies that will work best for your child, your family and not just the top answers from ChatGP. I blend Counselling concepts along the way, include your child’s voice where appropriate and empower YOU to best support your child moving forward.

Alongside this I am also a Qualified Counsellor with a strong neuro-affirming practice and a passion in working with neuro-spicy individuals and young people to best help them understand themselves. I don’t work with everything, because I am not the best counsellor for everything and I don’t pretend to be. If we are not the right fit, I refer on to someone who is.

So no, what you don’t need from another parent coach is them telling you how they will stop the meltdowns in 2 weeks and to simply buy them some noise defenders. I can certainly help you decrease the meltdowns, get out of them quicker and cope better with them whilst understanding what is going on- but for parents of neurodivergent children, the truth is there are no quick fixes. What works on Monday needs a new strategy by the following week. But when you truly understand your child, know the theory and have explored a bank of strategies and support, you don’t need a permanent coach, because you already know what to do and how to handle it. And if you do need to vent and some Mum time - I flip the switch and you are talking to a counsellor who truly gets it alongside you. No judgement, no AI responses, a real human who genuinely wants to help and see you succeed.

If this sounds like the type of support you need, you can like here to book a FREE discovery call, because  to quote one client recently,

“You’re like the Super Nanny of the SEN world….”
